Three books that genuinely changed my life

and they'll probably change yours...

Everyone can speak about the popular books and the impact they’ve had on their life. Think your Atomic Habits, Rich Dad Poor Dad, Alex Hormozi’s books and so on.

I wanted to share with you three books that you’ve probably not heard of that genuinely changed my life.

Here they are:

Surrounded by Idiots by Thomas Erikson: A book that shares a tool that enables your to assess everyone you communicate with. Four types of behaviours categorised as Red, Blue, Green and Yellow. All about human behaviour and how you can understand those who cannot be understood.

The main takeaway for my from this book is that often we say everyone is different and infact we really don’t understand how different. This book illustrates how people function, what makes the similar and what makes them different. Having read this book i often think about my interactions with people and what colour they most likely are to be able to communicate effectively. Good communication is often a matter of adapting to others rather than expecting them to understand you.

Your Next Five Moves by Patrick Bet-David: A book I purchased and didn’t read for well over a year, and after reading it I massively regretted NOT picking it up earlier. This book opened a clear way of thinking that your moves in business need to be strategic instead of sporadic without any long term thinking. This book covers a wide range of topics, strategies, insights and skills and is a very well rounded ‘business book’.

It has some absolutely hard hitting truths like - ‘In order for things to change, your way of thinking needs to change’. We often blame others for current state of things in your life, when in reality we’re only the ones that can make things works, only by taking full responsibility of our actions, thoughts and our inputs.

The personal life audit exercise in this book is a fantastic way of realising where in life you actually are and where you want to be!

And my absolute favourite by many miles, The Almanack Of Naval Ravikant.

In all honesty this book by far changed my way of thinking and in-turn allowed me to be where I am today. It covers all about wealth & happiness and everything in between. And instead of telling you details of what it covers exactly I thought I’d pull some of the heavy hitters from this book to illustrate it’s power.

‘‘The direction you’re heading in matters more than how fast you move, especially with leverage… Just pick the right direction to start walking in, and start walking’’.

‘’Simple Heuristic: If you’re evenly split on a difficult decision, take the path more painful in the short term’.

‘’Today, I believe happiness is really a default state. Happiness is there when you remove the sense of something missing in your life’.

And a personal favourite of mine -

Ways to get lucky:

  • Hope luck finds you.

  • Hustle until you stumble into it.

  • Prepare the mind and be sensitive to chances others miss.

  • Become the best at what you do. Refine what you do until this is true. Opportunity will see you out. Luck becomes your destiny.

Go pick one of these up and read it. No need to rush into all 3, I personally prefer to carefully read and actually study books over a longer period of time than blitz through them just to say I’ve read them.

Few thing’s that help me with reading books is highlighting important lessons, post-it notes with my interpretation of those lessons and transferring the two onto the iPhone notes app.
