What it takes to win in SMMA

You’ve been lied to about signing clients.

There’s a common misconception among new agency owners that they’ll create an offer with a guarantee, make a few cold calls and start sign clients easily to get their beloved 10k month and escape the matrix.

Now that’s all possible (apart from the matrix 💩, that was satire), but it’s incredibly difficult.

I’m speaking to more and more agency owners or beginners in the space facing the same issues and realisations that it takes A LOT of work and skills to win in this game.

In all honesty, i’m not someone that’s cracked the code yet, I’m still perfecting the offer, understanding my audience even further and building acquistion systems that work incredibly well that will enable myself to scale.

I may have found one that works well which i’ll share more about in the upcoming weeks as im not someone that gatekeeps anything.

Regardless, here’s five thing things that I’ve learnt along the way of running my agency for the short period of 4 months full time.

These will make you think, learn and in the end actually win:

  • Creating killer content is an absolute gold mine and I’m slowly starting to reap it’s rewards despite the difficult industry of Home Improvements and content being an incredibly long game.

I’ll even give you my content funnel for free:

Build Awareness and grow the audience through TOF content - 30% of total content posted.

Create curiosity, build trust and nurture the audience through the Middle of funnel content at 60% of overall content posted.

Sell or get audience to act upon a certain action through BOF - getting them to convert at 10% of total content posted.

  • Understanding your market incredibly well which can only be done through conversations with business owners and really getting to know their struggles - I already worked in the industry so knew alot, but those problems/pains were further solidified after speaking to business owners trying to sell marketing services opposed to construction services when i worked as a contracts manager.

  • Creating an offer that is the complete opposite of whatever the rest of the agencies are offering aka crazy guarantees, X amount of leads per week (if you run a lead gen agency), free or limited trials, pay on results and so on, getting a deeper understanding that no the end goal isn’t leads (in my case) they need sales… that doesn’t mean the offer needs to shout about leads leads leads and have crazy guarantees or numbers attached to it. I’m seeing more business owners reach out to myself and say they’ve seen our content and it’s refreshing to speak to someone thats not shouting silly stuff.

  • Outreach being the exact same as other agencies. Put yourself in the shoes of these companies… they will receive 100’s of dms, cold calls, cold emails or see paid ads SELLING the same old shit every single day. You go against the crowd and you start seeing more and more business owners reach out or reply to your outreach efforts.

  • Sales is the most important aspect of this game. If you can generate leads, enquiries and then calls but you cant close a sale you won’t win. A book I’d recommend on sales is ‘To sell is human by Daniel Pink’. Alot of Charlie Morgans content also highlights pyschology which is HUGE when it comes to sales. In the end its understanding why people buy, digging into that on the sales calls instead of selling your services (ofcourse that’s still important and has to take place) will really define the success you have on those calls.

That’s it,

Some rather exciting news - private Skool community launching in September by the way for those interested. Let me know if you are by replying to this email.

Thinking of the following:

Private & paid to stop everyone getting spammed with sales msgs and keep quality of members as high as possible.

Approx £20-£30 per month (this will pay for guests to jump on zoom calls from various industries so we can all learn from experts - will try my best to do monthly speakers).

Limited spaces of 30 people. If I get more interest then i’ll probably increase this before launch but not something that i’ll be using as scarcity like gurus do🤣

Weekly group zoom calls - to stay accountable to what you're working on, connect, share struggles and lessons as well as help refer clients to trusted individuals if needed.

In-person meetings in the UK (most likely London & Manchester).

Essentially a group of people in the online game looking to learn off each other, connect with likeminded individuals and grow together.

Again, Let me know if you are interested in the community by replying to this email.

Let’s get after it this week, smash your goals and stay consistent.

Appreciate you reading,
